Earning All the Merits of Scouting

Posted On: 1/9/2018 10:22 AM

article by Scott Degnon, Scout Master for Colonial Virginia troop 242

PC freshman and Life Scout William Robertson from Troop 242 in Newport News  recently accomplished a goal which  fewer than eighteen Boy Scouts per year nationwide complete-- earning all 137 merit badges currently available.
During a November Court of Honor, where he was presented with his two final Merit Badges, William talked about goals and devotion in life. He set the goal of earning all merit badges when he was still a Cub Scout. William believes devotion is a key point in all of our lives. "Without devotion and commitment, we would not go anywhere with our goals," he said.
William would love to see each scout in his troop achieve their most important goals in life. "This is only possible with devotion and not giving up. Every scout encounters obstacles in his  family, school, athletics, and time." His message to all scouts is "to not let the fire that you start off with and the devotion that you start off with die out. If that fire dies out it is hard to get back onto the road. Do not let your momentum slow and keep up the hard work. If you make a goal you can achieve it with hard work and never giving up."

PCHS Earns Blue Ribbon Status From National Organization

The New York Financial Literacy Coalition works with financial service firms, non-profit organizations, teachers, school administrators, and parents to promote financial literacy among young adults. The organization has just released the list of Blue Star Schools for the 2016-2017 academic year, to include Peninsula Catholic.
Achieving Blue Ribbon status is no small feat. A school, testing more than ten students, must have achieved a 80% passing rate on the Financial Literacy Certification Test and have EITHER a majority of students on a given grade level take the Test OR have the students who took it achieve an average score of 85% or higher.
